If you live in a county, like me, that has a mail in ballot only election, then your ballots should be in the mail.
The race has begun! The horses are out of the gate and there is an end in sight . As a candidate you do not stop! You should be as visible as possible. At every event, phone banking at the GOTV (Get Out the Vote) headquarters, sign waving, doorbelling and working 12 hours a day to convince the swing voters that you are the perfect fit for the job.
Are you polling? There are robo-dialing polls that are very inexpensive. With a poll youknow where you are at and where you need to focus your attention. Are you reading the blogs, the paper? Did you read the oppoonents write-up in the voter pamphlet? It sounds simple, but make sure you do. Today I got a call from a friend that has been working on out Mayoral race, one of the candidates stated a position opposite of what he has been saying on the campaign trail! The team sprang into action and are hitting the airwaves, writing letters to the editor and sending press releases.
Now is the time to hit your message hard. Don't be afraid to act quickly to attack or react. Be flexible! Have your strategy team in place and accessable to you by phone 24-7. This is the critical time.
The number one priority is GOTV! Get people to the polls, or to turn in their ballot. Call, go pick up the ballot, offer rides...do whatever it takes! NEVER ASSUME people will get their ballot in without your prodding. Do you have a matchback system? Call your elections office and ask how you get the matchback info. A matchback is where you have a database of the registered voters in your area and then when the ballot comes in the elections office sends you an email with the names of the ballots that have come in so you can quit calling that person, because they have turned in their ballot. Or keep calling and asking them to get their ballot in.
This should be an exhilirating time, yet stressful. Do all in your power to win! Remember all you need is 50%+1! Good Luck! Have FUN!
